Bickel'sBickel’s Potato Chip Company began life in 1954 under the guidance of Luther Bickel. The new company were based in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. Bickel's was a family run business offering a unique “seared” potato chip in a variety of different flavors.
Bickel’s was acquired in 1998 by the Hanover Foods Corporation. Hanover is the largest independently owned manufacturer of frozen, canned, fresh & freeze-dried food products in the US. The company strengthened its position in the salted snack foods category two years later when they purchased York Snacks and the Bon Ton Potato Chip potato chips manufacturing facility in York, Pennsylvania. The companies were consolidated and renamed Bickel’s Snack Foods, Inc. The venture brought together the production of corn snacks and potato chips and the facility to manufacture both private and branded labels. Today, Bickel’s is one of the few manufacturers that can offer the full gamut of salted snacks: Potato Chips, Pretzels, Tortilla Chips, Corn Chips, Cheese Curls, Popcorn and Party Mixes. In 2001, the rapid expansion of the company saw the inclusion of the WEGE Pretzel Company of Hanover, Pennsylvania. Bickel’s then changed the name to individualise the different brands: Bickel’s of York, Bon-Ton of York and WEGE of Hanover became the trading names of their respective snacks. Bickel’s Snack Foods is rightly proud of their status among the major salted snack manufacturers in The United States and is committed to being the number one producer, with prime goals of achieving "Quality, consistency, and dedication to customer service." |
