How to Shrink a Chips or Crisps Bag
0
This is how you create your own Chip Bag Shrinkies, as the became popularly known in the 1970s, when kids first started melting plastic bags in their mom's ovens!
The activity has since become timeless, and it is common to see kids turn up to school with shrunken Chip bag ear-rings, key-rings and book marks.
It is a versatile and fun project, but we would obviously advocate the presence of an adult when attempting this...

Step 1
Get a baking tray and cover with a piece of baking or grease-proof paper. Empty and wipe out your Chips bag of as many crumbs as you can. Place it in the centre of your baking tray. Create a seam and fold the baking paper in half, over the bag.

Step 3
After about five minutes you can check to see the progress. You may be happy for it to be less shrunken. Remove safely from the oven, place the newly shrunken bag on a towel or on kitchen roll paper to cool.

Step 4
After the bag has cooled you can examine and compare. This is a size comparison with a standard 40g bag.

Alternative
Place a bag on top of the baking paper without covering. Place in the oven at the same temperature as above, for between 10 and 25 seconds. Remove. This will create a more interesting shape, but if you leave it too long it will shrink into a tiny ball.
