De-Lish-Us Potato ChipsDelicious (De-Lish-Us) Popcorn & Distributors Co. Inc., was formed with the same dedication and hard work that brought about success for Marie Hollnbacher. Delicious prides itself on quality, innovation, and roots rich in history and tradition.
The Hollnbachers have been making gourmet and bulk popcorn for generations – three generations that is. Marie began popping popcorn in 1932 at home, before distributing to taverns and inns in 5lb cans on bike or on foot. Marie and her two sons, Fred and Victor, also sold popcorn and peanuts out of a cart on the grounds of a baseball park in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Starting out in the snack industry in Wisconsin, it was only natural for Marie to produce the crispiest, freshest most flavorful Potato Chips as well. In 1938 at a kitchen table conference, they came up with a name for an operation, ‘Delicious’. Brothers Vic and Fred cooked up what would eventually be by millions of batches of De-Lish-Us Potato Chips. During the Second World War, under the odd name ‘Delicious Dehydrators’ they provided the Armed Forces with dehydrated potatoes. Delicious received a Certificate of Meritorious Service from the Chicago Quartermaster Depot for ‘Outstanding performance in supplying foods and equipment for the Armed Forces of the United States.’ Decades later, in Waupaca, Wisconsin, Grandma Marie’s grandsons, Jim and Jeff, still make great popcorn and Potato Chips in the same traditional way that has endured for generations. |
