Golden Flake Snack Foods

When Mose Lischkoff and Frank Mosher started their potato chip manufacturing company Magic City, in 1923, little did they know that 90 years later Golden Enterprises would have 1200 employees and use 100 million pounds of potatoes a year to make their flavorful potato chips. That small kettle cooked potato chips company is now a snack food company known today as Golden Flake.
The "Golden Flake Girl", after whom the company was renamed was Helen Friedman, an early employee who became an owner when she and her mother bought out co-founder Mose Lischkoff. Helen married Frank Moser, but the union did not last. She did however receive the company in the property settlement. 
Magic City Food Products' sales reached a million dollars under Friedman's leadership, which led to a sale to the Bashinsky family in 1946. The company name was later changed to Golden Flake, Incorporated. 
A fifty acre potato chips manufacturing facility opened in the 1960s, prior to public listing.In 1977 Golden Flake Snack Foods became a wholly owned subsidiary of Golden Enterprises, Incorporated.
The extensive range includes many potato chip flavors, tortilla chips and puffed corn and wheat snacks.

Golden Flake Sour Cream 'n Onion Dip Style 
A very good tasting chip with a nice balance of creamy sweet onion, and you could certainly taste the potato. The downside is everything about them felt and tasted like a mass-market product, with the flavour seeming a bit too generic.

Golden Flake Thin & Crispy Hot Chips
A Nose Plunge Test revealed a spicy smell. Not nose stinging, but apparent. I would describe these as slow burners. A couple of chips in I was thinking, okay, mildly hot. The aftertaste lingered for longer than usual with hot and spicy chips. Overall, not hot enough for the bag's fanfare declarations, but a pretty good variety option.

Golden Flake Sweet Heat Barbecue Thin &
​Crispy Potato Chips
There was an uneven coating of seasoning on many of these chips, which is always welcome. This allows for differing levels of enjoyment in each bite. There was heat, but it was mild, so it did not need tempering with the thick sweetness. The aftertaste was minimal. The overall effect was of a pleasant and uneven sticky barbecue sauce.
