Larry the Cable Guy Tater ChipsLarry the Cable Guy, real name Daniel Lawrence Whitney, is an American stand-up comedian, actor, voice actor, and radio personality. It is said that he dropped out in his first year at Nebraska University to try his hand at comedy, after perfecting his southern accent and early routines.
Whitney’s career began in early 1990s radio, where he appeared as a phone character. He was widely employed to provide phone commentaries. He then went into stand-up comedy and invented the Larry character. A personality that he maintains. Larry dresses as a stereotypical redneck, has a thick Southern accent and tells amusing stories about his family with the use of standard comedic catchphrases like, "Git-R-Done!" He has released several comedy albums including three that have sold over half a million copies. Larry has also successfully transferred his act to television. His latest show ‘Only in America with Larry the Cable Guy’ sees Larry pitched into all sorts of lives and jobs during his travels around America. The show regularly gets around £4million viewers. On the TV show ‘The Roast of Larry the Cable Guy’ it was said that Whitney earned $250,000 a night for his stand up work. Whitney launched the Git-R-Done Foundation in 2009. It describes the charity’s mission its own website: “The foundation’s mission is to provide assistance to charitable organizations that have experienced hardships beyond their control, with an emphasis on children and veterans.” In 2010, Whitney donated $5million to the Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children in Orlando, Florida after his infant son was cured of Hip Dysplasia by the staff there.
