This is Proper Crisps, company statement:
"We started with a simple, fundamental question. Why, when New Zealand grows some of the best potatoes in the world, could we not buy really great crisps? 
"So we set out to learn as much about making really great crisps as we could. Our journey took us all over the world and we must have eaten our own weight in crisps! 
"We came back with a truly gorgeous old fashioned crisp cooker from the USA, fully armed with the knowledge of how to use it to make great crisps.
"In order to pursue our vision of making the best crisps using the finest South Island potatoes, we found a little building in the village of Upper Moutere near sunny Nelson. It was the ideal size for making crisps and set about installing our crisp cooker and we started to experiment. 
"To be honest, it took us quite a few tries to get the proper crisp process just right. Let’s just say the first few batches were less than successful, in fact they ended up going to our neighbour’s sheep. We kept at it, and we learned a lot. It wasn’t long before we had a product that everybody was happy with (Well, almost everybody – the sheep had to go back to eating grass!).
"We are passionate about only using natural ingredients. We believe that food tastes better when it hasn’t been “messed about with” and filled with artificial additives which are there for the manufacturer's benefit, not the consumer’s."
