We found this wonderful history on the Hartville website. We hope you enjoy it as much as we did.
The South Akron neighborhood holds a bit of magic in our family. Two generations ago, a small corner market named “Joe & Sons Poultry & Corner Grocery Market” located on South Street was a staple for the community. Stories of our Grandpa Joe, Grandma Rose, our dad, and his brothers and sister working in the store colored our youth. It was during this time that strong relationships with other local companies were built. Over 60 years ago the families of Joe & Son’s Poultry & Corner Grocery Market, Klein’s Seafood, and DiFeo & Son's Poultry worked together to build unique businesses dedicated to quality. With these relationships still intact today, we are excited to be located in the space adjacent to Klein’s Seafood, this time selling Kettle Cooked Potato Chips with our cousin Ted Robb. We hope you will come see us and be a part of the potato chip making experience, similar to the way many might remember and in a neighborhood that means so much to us! Making great Kettle Cooked Potato Chips runs deep in our family. In 1970, Ted purchased his first potato chip company in Kenmore, OH, making multiple brands that were loved throughout the area. One of those brands was Hartville Potato Chips. Selling the business in 1991, Ted traveled the world helping others perfect the Kettle Cooked Potato Chip. Now, with the help of his cousins, the family is back at it! We’re making a great tasting Kettle Cooked Potato Chip that will bring back memories of the way chips used to be made. After more than two decades of being away from the business, we hope you enjoy our new Hartville Potato Chip! |
