Gruesas ‘Especial Canapes’ These large and thickly cut chips are clearly manufactured for a purpose, and the ‘Especial Canapes’ bag description was the giveaway. The imagery was of said large, flat chips with small hors d’oeuvre on top. I ate them as chips. They were plain, greasy and hard. Just like, canape bases! (17) Rubio Traditional Premium Potato Chips
It is hard to know where to start with these chips. They came in a plain black packet which will standard out on shelves. They were curly and folded, like all the best hand-cooked chips. They were very crunchy, and befitting their ‘traditional’ claim, they were very greasy. The taste was of chips from a chips shop. As in potato chips / French fries. This was achieved with a blend of sunflower oil and olive oil. The aftertaste was warm, fluffy, and yes, still chips shops chips. Quite simply magnificent and among the best representatives of a by-gone age of chips I have tried throughout Europe. (23) * (2021 Winners) |
Rubio Snacks Potato Chips
Spanish Patatas Fritas companies specialise in traditional plain chips. They are basic, no nonsense chips and crisps from a bygone age, and these were no different. Crispy, crunchy and full of greasy fat. Not much in the way of salt but a hefty 4.88 grams of saturated fat per 100 grams. (11) |
