This bag conjures up images of the sea. The fresh looking white background, the iconic Cape Cod lighthouse, the deep greyish blue color coding for the flavor. It really is a very good design... If that is the same write up we included in the full fat review, we would add that the colors of this bag could have been better separated from the other version of the same flavor by making it a two color bag, as it were - If the top brush stroke was a different color with the reduced fat info in, it could have worked slightly better, but that is merely a design option for what is a very well designed bag.
These were not quite as crunchy as the full fat version of this flavor, but they are still Kettle Cooked Chips which will always mean they have a superior snap and crunch to regular Chips.
When there is some potato skin on the edges of the Chips it almost confirms the All Natural claim, even if they do include maltodextrin a common food additive and taste enhancer. They are not quite as greasy as the full fat version of this flavor, but there is still some powdery substance spread evenly over the Chips.
As soon as you open the bag a heavy vinegar whiff hits you. The taste is consistent and strong. The balance between the different salt powders included with the vinegar powder leans a bit more towards vinegar than with the full fat version. Interestingly, the ingredients remain virtually the same as the full fat version, so they must have sued some science to reduced the fat content (Stop Press: Careful reading of the less fat info reveals that the comparison is with regular Chips, not Cape Cod's own! Very Clever). The acidic vinegary flavor does stand out more, but it is a similar flavor with less oil and less salt, which would suggest this would make a more sensible purchase with little lost in flavor.
