Verdict

Bag

There is not much design factor with any of Yupi's Chips ranges. The Nachos designs are no different. There is a big black triangle pointing downwards, which isn't a good start. There is an unnecessary golden circle in the centre and there are a few Tortilla Chip images. That's it.

Crunch

Tortilla Chips crunch more sturdily than regular Potato Chips and Crisps, and this was a feature of these Chips. However, the copious seasoning powder dampened down the crunch a little; maybe it even soaked up some of the cooking oil. This led to a rather muted munch noise, rather than a crisp, snappy crunch.

Texture

These Chips had two definable features. Firstly, they had the familiar Tortilla Chip look. There were oil boils. They were triangular. There were black dots. But the second feature was the most noticeable – the orange coloured seasoning powder drenched the Chips. Please be careful not to drop any on your clothing – my white shirt was laundry ready after one dropped Chip!

Taste

A Tortilla Nose Plunge Test invariably provides a familiar fried Tortilla aroma. That was not so evident with these Chips. There was a little cheesiness to the smell though. There was also a slightly cheesy flavouring to the Chips, but considering the heavy coating we were expecting more.
